ENCRYPTION
- What is encryption?
Encryption software is used to scramble your data so that only you and the intended recipient can read and understand it.
- Advantages
- It separates the security of data from the security of the device where the data resides or the medium through which data is transmitted.
- The elimination of the pain that comes with data breach disclosures.
- The provision of strong protection for intellectual property.
- Disadvantages
- The security of data becomes the security of the encryption key.
- Encrypting data and creating the keys necessary to encrypt and decrypt the data is computationally expensive.
- Possible Problems
- Key Length
- Slower Encryption Times
- Longer Encrypted Message Lengths
- Certificate Management Requirements
FIREWALL
- What is Firewall?
A firewall is either a type of software or physical device that sits between a computer and the internet. Its purpose is to regulate the Internet connection, allowing certain traffic to enter and exit the computer while keeping other certain connections from doing the same. It accomplishes this by either analyzing every bit of data sent and received from a computer, regulating programs or acting as a proxy server, meaning that all traffic is sent through another server before it reaches its destination.
